  1. Republic of Maldives has signed the Articles of Agreement of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on the 29th of June 2015, in the signing ceremonry which took place at The Great Hall of the People, Beijing, China.

His Excellency, Abdulla Jihad, Minister of Finance and Treasury signed the Articles of Agreement on behalf of the Government of the Maldives. 

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is an international financial institution proposed by the government of China. The purpose of the Bank is to;

(i) Foster economic development, create wealth and improve infrastructure connectivity in Asia by investing in infrastructure and other productive sectors; and 

(ii) Promote regional cooperation and partnership in addressing development challenges by working in close collaboration with other multilateral and bilateral development institutions.

50 countries, along with Republic of Maldives have signed the Articles of Agreement of the Bank, making the bank enter into force.
