Minister of Finance and Planning Meets with SINOSURE in China

The Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, who is currently attending the 10th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Beijing, met today with senior officials from the China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE).


The meeting was held as part of the Minister’s official engagements on the sidelines of the AIIB Annual Meeting, taking place from 24 to 26 June 2025.


The SINOSURE delegation included Sheng Hetai, President; Wang Xu, General Manager, Project Insurance Post-Underwriting Department; Li Zhibo, General Manager, Project Insurance Underwriting Department; and, Wang Yan, Deputy General Manager, Business Development and Client Service Department.


The Minister was accompanied by Dr Fazeel Najeeb, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Maldives to China; Ali Sajid Shakir, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in China; Mizna Waheed, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in China; and, Rauha Ibrahim, Resource Mobilization Analyst, Ministry of Finance and Planning.


During the meeting, Minister Zameer conveyed greetings on behalf of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Chinese side and expressed appreciation for the continued partnership between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of the consensus reached during President Dr Muizzu’s state visit to China, which reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening high-level bilateral relations.


Minister Zameer outlined the Government of Maldives’ plans to pursue additional development projects with the assistance of Chinese partners. He provided an update on the ongoing fiscal reforms implemented by the Government, aimed at strengthening public finances and ensuring long-term economic sustainability. He emphasised the Government’s continued focus on strategic investments in public sector projects to foster economic resilience and improve service delivery to the Maldivian people.


The meeting concluded with both sides expressing interest in further enhancing collaboration to support the Maldives' development priorities.
