The Ministry of Finance and Planning and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have signed an agreement for the development and operation of a new airport in Th. Vilufushi.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Vilufushi on 24 September 2025. Minister of Finance and Planning, Mr. Moosa Zameer, signed on behalf of the Government, while Mr. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of MACL, signed on behalf of the company.

Under the agreement, MACL will undertake the development of Vilufushi Airport with a runway measuring 1,800 metres, alongside a passenger terminal and the full range of facilities required for an operational airport.

Speaking during the visit, President Muizzu noted that the airport is a significant infrastructure project for Thaa Atoll and confirmed that it will be completed and operational within two years and six months.
